Kvarner

This area consists of three regions on the Croatian coast (south of the Velebit mountain range - the islands of Krk, Rab, Losinj and Cres in the Kvarner Bay, the north-eastern coast of Istria and the mountainous region called Gorski Kotar in the hinterland. 
The latter region also includes the northern part of the island of Pag. 
The administrative headquarters is located in Rijeka, the architecture of the Hungarian is very similar, whereas the islands are strongly influenced by the Venetians.

The Kvarner National Parks:

The Plitvice Lakes (Plitvička jezera)

In inland, bordering the Velebit mountain ranges, the View form the most beautiful and famous Croatian national park, and at the same time a part of the Unesco World Heritage.
The National Park consists of 16 smaller and larger lakes that are all connected by waterfalls. 
The waterfalls created through sedimentation of travertine, a special kind of limestone. 
The forests in the region are made of beech and pine, some of it is primeval. 
The animal life is rich, even the brown bear is found here. 
There are special panoramic tours for visitors organized - both on land in panoramic buses as well as the largest lakes with power-driven boats.

North Velebit

 

At the center of Velebit, the most attractive and beautiful part of the region, around the highest point of Velebit, there are nature reserves Rozanski - and Rozanski Kuk. 
They consist of karst rocks and include Luke's Cave, one of the deepest in the world, and the famous Velebit Botanical Garden.

Risnjak

Forested mountain range north of the river, which includes the source region of this small region is a haven of enormous wealth of biodiversity. 
Area inhabited for example, brown bear, lynx, chamois, deer and eagle. 
The beauty of the forest, a phenomenon and magnificent views attract many hikers.
